Six age-specific profiles of mortality are given on the following pages. The six developmental periods in the life span are:

less than one year of age

1 to 14 years old

Adolescents
or persons 15 to 19 years old

Young adults
or persons 20 to 44 years old

Middle-aged adults
or persons 45 to 64 years old
?
Elderly
or persons 65 years or older.
For each age group, cause-specificmortality is compared between urban (i.e., Maricopa, Pima, Pinal, and Yuma counties)
and rural (all other counties) regions and between genders. Urban and rural regions also are compared in gender-specific
total mortality.
