Individual LeadingCauses of Death byGender andAgeGroup
Table 11 presents the number of deaths andmortality rates for the ten leading causes of death
amongArizona resident females 65 years and older during2012. In 2012, deaths from
Alzheimer?s disease ranked first among all causes occurring among elderly females. Among
females 85 years and older, 68 percent of deathswere fromAlzheimer?s disease. Dementia
ranked third, accounting for 225.4 deaths per 100,000 resident females 65 years and older.
Proportionately, this represents 6.45 percent of deaths among resident females 65 years and over.
Deaths from breast cancer ranked ninth andwere evenlydistributed across age groups.
