The first-listed (or primary) diagnosis was used to identify the discharges for diabetes ICD-9-CM code 250/ICD-10-CM code E10-E11 in Tables 1-5. Any mention of ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM related to diabetes was used to identify the diabetes-related discharges in Tables A and B.
