The external cause of injury codes for accidental fall ICD-9-CM codes E8800-E8869 and E8889 in the first E-code field were used to identify the emergency room visits and discharges of inpatients with fall injuries. The ICD-9-CM codes 820.0-820.9 were used to identify the discharges for hip fractures. For detail on ICD-9/ICD-10 coding conversion refer to document ICD-9-10_HDD.
