The report distinguishes between the first-listed diagnosis and all-listed diagnoses. The number of first-listed diagnoses is the same as the number of discharges. All-listed diagnoses include first-listed diagnoses and secondary diagnoses and are provided for users who want to know the total number of times certain conditions have been reported for hospitalized patients. The discharge record may include more than one diagnosis specific to alcohol abuse (i.e. alcohol dependence syndrome and alcoholic gastritis). Therefore, when counting all-listed diagnoses, the sum of all occurrences of diagnoses specific to alcohol abuse (the column sum in the tables D, E and F) is greater than the total number of discharges with alcohol abuse diagnosis.
